YOGA CLUB
Bright Stars Kindergarten offers a comprehensive and interactive Early Years Yoga Program. Our Yoga Program is holistic and aids each child’s development in all areas of their wellbeing including physical, mental and emotional. It provides an inspiring mix of creativity, relaxation and gentle exercise and is a wonderful addition to each child’s early foundational years!
Our Yoga program encourages the following skills:
LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT – Yoga is a holistic approach to development, learning and well-being. It has a number of positive effects on children’s health, behaviour and performance. It maximises the development of academic, social and emotional competence. Yoga provides children with healthy ways to express balance and regulate their emotions and behaviour. It enhances focus, attention, concentration, comprehension and memory. Yoga promotes a more relaxed, comfortable state of being – the perfect state for teaching and learning.
FOCUS & CONCENTRATION – Yoga is a technique that helps children improve their ability to calm their minds and bring higher levels of concentration into focus. Yoga teaches children to focus all their attention on breathing while moving their bodies to a pose. This combined focus to achieve a particular pose or stay balanced while focusing on breathing helps increase children’s ability focus and concentrate.
STRENGTH & FLEXIBILITY – Yoga encourages strength and flexibility as children use all of their muscles while practising poses. Each pose can challenge a different muscle group while helping children become aware of their bodies and how their body functions.
BALANCE & COORDINATION – Yoga promotes mental and physical strength in children as they learn to balance different poses. Children develop a sense of achievement as they develop their physical balance. Coordination is closely connected to balance and promotes a child’s overall skill to use their hands and body to balance. Balance and coordination techniques used in Yoga help children with gross and fine motor coordination.
CONFIDENCE & SELF ESTEEM – Yoga teaches children to be patient, persevere and work toward their goals. It is these three concepts that allow a child to succeed and in turn helps develop their confidence and self-esteem. Yoga teaches children to love themselves and be proud of what their bodies can do.
RELAXATION & STRESS MANAGEMENT – The breathing exercises associated with Yoga assist in calming and soothing the mind and body. Also, children can be encouraged to deal with stressful situations using these breathing techniques acquired in Yoga.
ENHANCE AND SUPPORT HEALTH & WELLBEING – Yoga helps children develop strength and flexibility, while soothing their nerves and calming their mind. It affects their muscles, joints and the whole body – glands, nerves, internal organs, bones, respiration and the brain. Yoga improves children’s muscular and postural strength. It is a gentle form of exercise and stress management. Yoga increases feelings of happiness and wellbeing in children.
